Travelling Within Malaysia With a ResMed AirMini
Packing, driving, flying and staying overnight with a ResMed AirMini on trips within Malaysia, from balik kampung to work trips.

Balik kampung for Raya, a work trip to Penang, a family holiday in Sabah: travel within Malaysia is part of life for many people who use CPAP. A full-size machine with a water tub can be awkward to pack. The ResMed AirMini is the compact travel model in the range we list, and this guide covers the practical side of taking it with you.
Your settings travel with you unchanged. They come from your doctor or sleep clinic, and any question about adjusting them for a trip should go to them.
Why the AirMini suits travel

- Compact: it is the small machine of the three we list, so it fits more easily in a bag.
- Auto-adjusting: it is an APAP that adjusts pressure breath by breath.
- Waterless humidification: it uses HumidX or HumidX Plus instead of a water tub, so there is no water to carry, fill or empty on the road. Our AirMini humidification guide explains how that works.
Packing list

- The AirMini.
- Its power supply and cable. Keep these with the machine so they are not left in a hotel socket.
- Tubing and the HumidX part for your mask setup.
- Your mask, plus a spare cushion if the trip is long.
- Spare filters.
- A copy of your settings or the clinic's letter, in case you need to show it.
- A short extension lead, because hotel and family-home sockets are not always near the bed.
By road
Long drives
For trips up the North–South Expressway or across the East Coast, pack the AirMini in the car rather than the boot if you can, so it is not thrown around with heavy luggage.
Heat in a parked car
A car parked in the Malaysian sun gets very hot inside. Check the storage conditions in the manual, and take the machine with you when you stop for the night rather than leaving it in the car.
By air within Malaysia
Flights to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu or Penang are common for work and family visits. Airlines set their own rules about medical devices in the cabin, so check with your airline before you fly. Many travellers prefer to keep a CPAP in hand luggage so it is not lost or damaged in the hold. Having the clinic's letter with you can help if anyone asks what the device is.
Staying overnight
Hotels and homestays
When you book, it is worth asking whether there is a socket near the bed. If not, the extension lead on your packing list solves it.
Family homes
Older kampung houses may have fewer sockets in the bedroom, and the room may be warm and humid or cooled by a fan instead of air-conditioning. Set up the machine on a stable surface beside the bed, and keep the cable away from where people walk.
Mask choice for travel

Some travellers prefer a smaller mask for packing, such as nasal pillows like the AirFit P30i. Others stay with the mask they use at home so nothing changes. If you are thinking of switching, ask your clinic first. Whichever mask you use, tell us when ordering an AirMini so we can confirm the matching setup. Our mask section covers the three types.
Using an AirMini alongside a home machine
Some people keep an AirStart 10 or AirSense 10 AutoSet at home and use the AirMini only for trips. If you do this, make sure both machines use the settings from your clinic. You can compare all three on our comparison table.
Prices for the AirMini
Purchase starts from RM4,900, with an instalment plan of RM1,800 × 3 months and no credit card. Rental is not listed for the AirMini. Masks are sold separately, from RM600 for the mask only, and HumidX parts and other accessories are priced on WhatsApp.
Before your trip
- Order any spare parts well before you leave, since delivery is arranged on WhatsApp.
- Check your airline's rules if you are flying.
- Pack the power supply with the machine.
- Bring your settings or the clinic's letter.
