Looking After a CPAP Water Tub in Malaysia's Humid Climate

A simple daily and weekly routine for the AirStart 10 and AirSense 10 AutoSet water tub in a humid Malaysian home. Follow your manual.

Looking After a CPAP Water Tub in Malaysia's Humid Climate

The AirStart 10 and the AirSense 10 AutoSet both humidify the air with a water tub. The tub is easy to forget about because it simply sits in the machine. In a climate like Malaysia's, where things dry slowly and damp corners are common, a little routine around it is worth having.

This is general care advice. Your machine's manual is the reference for cleaning methods, water type and replacement timing, so follow it where it differs from anything here.

Which machines have a water tub

  • AirStart 10: built-in HumidAir humidifier with its own water tub.
  • AirSense 10 AutoSet: integrated humidification with Climate Control, using a water tub.
  • AirMini: no water tub. It uses waterless HumidX humidification, covered in our AirMini humidification article.

Why humid weather changes the routine

Outdoors, Malaysian air is humid for most of the year. Inside, many bedrooms run air-conditioning all night, so the room may be cooler and drier than outside, while bathrooms and kitchens stay damp. A tub washed in the morning and left wet in a damp spot can stay wet for a long time. The aim of the routine below is simple: a clean tub that is fully dry before it is filled again.

A simple daily routine

In the morning

  1. Switch off and unplug the machine before you remove the tub.
  2. Empty any water left in the tub. Do not top up old water for the next night.
  3. Rinse or wash the tub as your manual describes.
  4. Leave it to air-dry fully, away from direct sunlight.

In the evening

  1. Check that the tub is completely dry and clean.
  2. Fill it with the type of water your manual specifies, up to the marked level only.
  3. Fit it back into the machine carefully so no water spills inside.

Where to dry the tub

Drying spot matters more than people expect in a humid home. A few practical points:

  • Pick a spot with air movement, such as a dish rack in a ventilated kitchen, rather than a closed bathroom.
  • Stand the parts so water can drain out rather than pool inside.
  • Avoid drying in strong direct sun, which the manual typically warns against for plastic parts.
  • If the house is closed up during the day, a room with a fan or air-conditioning running may dry it better.

Weekly check

Once a week, take a closer look. Your manual may also describe a deeper clean on a weekly schedule. While you are at it, check for:

  • Cloudy marks or residue that do not wash off.
  • Cracks, chips or a seal that no longer sits flat.
  • Discolouration or any smell.
  • Water collecting where it should not when the tub is fitted.

If you see any of these, it may be time to replace the tub. Water tubs are an accessory we supply, with prices quoted on WhatsApp.

Things to avoid

  • Do not fill the tub above the marked maximum.
  • Do not move the machine with water in the tub. Empty it first.
  • Do not use cleaning products the manual does not list.
  • Do not change humidity settings to work around a problem with the tub. Raise comfort concerns with your doctor or sleep clinic.

When a family member does the cleaning

If the machine belongs to a parent, it often helps to agree who handles the tub each day. A short note near the machine with the morning and evening steps can make it easier for whoever is helping. Our guide to setting up a CPAP for an elderly parent covers the wider routine.

The rest of the air path

Tubing, filters and the water tub are part of the same air path.

The tub is one part of the path the air travels. Tubing, filters and the mask cushion need their own care and replacement. Our article on replacing tubing, filters and cushions goes through them one by one, and our machines section lists the humidifier on each model.

Getting a replacement tub

Message us with your machine model and we will confirm the matching tub and its price. Delivery covers all of Malaysia and is arranged on WhatsApp, whether you are in George Town, Kuching or Kota Kinabalu. You can also see all three machines on our comparison table.
