Nasal, Full Face or Pillows: AirFit N20, F20 and P30i
How the ResMed AirFit N20 nasal, F20 full face and P30i nasal pillows masks differ, and the questions that help you narrow down the type.

A CPAP machine sits on the bedside table. The mask sits on your face for the whole night. That is why many people find the mask choice harder than the machine choice. We list three ResMed masks, one of each main type: the AirFit N20 (nasal), the AirFit F20 (full face) and the AirFit P30i (nasal pillows).
This guide explains how the three types differ and what to think about for each. It does not tell you which one you need. Your doctor or sleep clinic may already have a view, and fit is personal. What we can do is help you narrow down the questions.
The three mask types at a glance
| Mask | Type | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| AirFit N20 | Nasal | Sits over the nose |
| AirFit F20 | Full face | Covers the nose and mouth |
| AirFit P30i | Nasal pillows | Small cushions that rest at the nostrils |
All three are sold separately from the machine, from RM600 for the mask only. The price for each model is confirmed on WhatsApp.
Nasal mask: AirFit N20

A nasal mask has a cushion that sits over the nose, held in place by headgear. Air goes in through the nose only.
Things to consider
- It suits people who breathe through the nose while asleep.
- The cushion covers more of the face than nasal pillows, but less than a full face mask.
- If your mouth tends to fall open at night, raise it with your clinic, because air can escape through the mouth with a nasal-only mask.
Full face mask: AirFit F20

A full face mask covers both the nose and the mouth. Air can be breathed in through either.
Things to consider
- It is often discussed for people who breathe through the mouth, or whose nose is often blocked.
- It is the largest of the three, so the seal sits on more of the face.
- Some people who wear glasses to read in bed find a larger mask less convenient. Others do not notice.
Nasal pillows: AirFit P30i

Nasal pillows are small soft cushions that rest at the openings of the nostrils. There is very little in front of the face.
Things to consider
- It is the most minimal of the three, which some people like for reading or watching TV before sleep.
- Air goes in through the nose only, so the same mouth-breathing question applies as with a nasal mask.
- Some people take a few nights to get used to the feel at the nostrils.
Questions that help narrow it down
- Do you breathe through your mouth at night? If you are not sure, a partner or family member may know. Mention it to your clinic.
- How do you sleep? Side, back or front can affect how a mask sits on the pillow.
- Do you have a beard or moustache? Facial hair can affect where a cushion seals.
- Does anything in front of your face bother you? If so, the smaller options may feel easier.
- What has your clinic used with you before? If you tried a mask during a sleep study, note which type it was.
Sizing
Each mask comes in sizes. Getting the size right matters as much as picking the type. Send us your questions on WhatsApp before ordering so we can go through the options with you.
Masks and machines
The AirStart 10 and AirSense 10 AutoSet are listed without masks, and so is the AirMini. When you plan your budget, add the mask to the machine price. If you are choosing an AirMini, tell us which mask you want so we can confirm the matching setup. Our mask section shows all three side by side, and the machines section lists the machines they go with.
Cushions and headgear wear out
Whichever type you choose, the cushion and headgear are parts that get replaced over time. Follow the manual for how often. Prices for cushions and other accessories are quoted on WhatsApp. Our article on replacing tubing, filters and cushions goes through the routine.
Ordering a mask
You can order a mask with a machine or on its own. Delivery covers all of Malaysia and is arranged on WhatsApp, whether the mask is going to Johor Bahru, George Town or Kota Kinabalu. You pay by online banking transfer.
